House Tours: Campion Platt

Campion Platt is a famous American architect living here in NYC. He just released a design book named "Made to Order" which I've heard is AH-Mazing! It's definitely at the top of my list of books I'm needing to purchase! These photos in the current NY Social Diary showcase his awesome house! He has managed to create a house with a purple sofa, a pink bedroom, and lots of purple light strips on the walls, yet it's still somehow has a masculine edge.

I'm LOVING the purple sofa! Hoping someday I can convince Mr. Williams he would like it! (I think it's starting to grow on him...)

The light installments throughout the house remind me of the post I had a few days ago about the LED light strips. The ones in this apartment are a tad different, but same concept. I love the feel it creates in the room, it definitely takes things to a whole new level!

He's done such a fantastic job mixing so many different elements and styles yet making it still feel so cohesive.

He did a great job of still bringing in some darker, more stately pieces to help balance the space, keeping it grounded. Like this great little entertainment area, as well as the fireplace.

There's only one thing that comes to mind when I see this kitchen:MODERN GLAMOUR!

I love the modern bookcases. The lighting creates such a soft feel for all the harsh straight lines.

The bedroom is so refreshing, light and airy! I'd wake up in a good mood every morning in such a happy looking bedroom!

I like how the closet is all function, it doesn't have to be style out, so long as everything has a place and is able to stay organized. (Ok, and his wife is one lucky lady! Check out that shoe rack is her closest!)

Closet Organization

I don't know about you, but I L-O-V-E having an organized, color coded closet! It makes things so much easier to find and inspiration for new outfits to be created so much easier, don't you agree? Whether or not you have a large closet space, just keeping each "genre" of clothing together (i.e. short sleeved shirts, long sleeved shirts, skirts, dresses, etc...) and each of those categories color coded from light to dark makes it refreshing to open your closet door every morning. And inspiring to try and create a different look by pairing a top with a certain skirt and tights add a pair of cute socks, fun booties, and you have an all new outfit you maybe never would've put together otherwise; and even better, it cost you no money!

(Ok, now, just because I love having an organized closet doesn't always mean I end up keeping it like that, just ask Mr. Williams!)

Another great idea to cap off the organized closet ideas would be to make a jewelry holder out of a picture frame with some wire screen (like for a screened door) to hang your necklaces, bracelets, and earrings on for easy viewing, and to keep them from tangling up into one big ball of chains! *Don't worry, that will be a DIY post soon cuz I'm in dire need of jewelry storage!

Happy organizing!

Office Inspiration

I find this "office space" so inspiring! Since moving to NYC I've grown to a new level of appreciation for people's creative space utilizing ideas. This closet turned office is just one great "small space, grand style" idea!

The creator of this office did a fabulous job of using every square inch of space for maximum storage results. I love the idea of putting the pegboard on one door back to hang things like rulers, clipboards, magazine racks and such, the calender on the other door, plenty of shelving and the darling wallpaper to top it all off! When the work day is over, just close the doors and forget all about work! Although, with an office space that cute, those doors probably never get shut!

How cool are these indoor LED light strips? I'm love the effect these babies have in a room, creating a soft glow all over!
Available in cool white, warm white and RGB, these light strips offer an array of different ways to change the feel of a room, with just the "flip of a switch" so to speak!

These would be a great addition to any room, especially in the winter to help counter balance the lack of sunshine!

Merry Christmas

Happy Birthday Jesus

" In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while[a] Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to their own town to register.
So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
“Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told." Luke 2:1-20

Merry Christmas!

Holiday Champagne Cocktail

This cocktail is made with icy Moscato d'Asti, which is sweeter than champagne but much lighter than the rich dessert wine also made from Italian moscato grapes. Just the right medium for this fizzy drink, it adds flavor to the silky pear and tart cranberries.

95 calories; 0 g protein; 0 g fat; 6 g carb; 0 g fiber.

2 tablespoons dry cranberries
1/2 cup organic pear nectar
32 ounces Moscato d'Asti wine
8 small sprigs fresh rosemary
Directions

Put cranberries in a small bowl; add 2 tablespoons warm water. Soak until cool, about 15 minutes. Drain, pat dry, and refrigerate until serving.
Divide pear nectar evenly among eight tall champagne glasses. Add cranberries, and then gently pour the Moscato d'Asti into the glasses. Garnish each with a rosemary sprig.
Happy Holiday celebrating!

DIY Peony Gift Bows

Here's a great last minute gift wrapping idea from Martha Stewart that's simple, easy, but looks like you took extra time making that special someone's gift look perfect!

With a little scissor work, basic self-adhesive bows are transformed into sumptuous blooms. For each "flower," cut the loops of one small bow and one large bow at an angle. Then affix the small bow to the empty center of the large bow. Coil a short length of matching ribbon; place the coil in the center of the small bow, and secure with double-sided tape. Showcase a single bloom, or pair with more matching ribbon.

Find of the Day

Tom Toupin of Etsy.com creates these fabulous marquee style letters and signs that look vintage even though they're brand new! I've been dying for a large "W" to put up in our dining room ever since Kyle and I saw an antique one at the Olde Good Things store on the Upper West Side. However, that one was $1500! Tom's handmade letters are MUCH more affordable and just as full of character! Through a series of layers of paint he creates the distressed faux-metal rust appearance that makes these letters look like they've been freshly drug out of a salvage yard. The signs come in pink/orange, yellow/red and white/blue, however, he is open to creating custom color combinations if desired. He originally made the signs 4'x4', but has since sized them down to 2'x2'. I think this is exactly what I've been looking for!
