{Kitchen Reveal}

remember last week when i was asking your advice on what i should do to change up our kitchen?
well, i decided on going all out chalkboard paint.
i have always been a huge huge admirer of the high contrast between a dark wall and white cabinetry/finishes. because of that admiration i decided going for the dark and playful walls was the perfect solution to my design dilemma since i have all white cabinets and appliances in our current kitchen.
i got my diy on last weekend and must say i couldn't be happier with the outcome. even mr. w (who was supportive of, but i think fairly unsure of, my enthusiasm to paint our tiny little kitchen so dark) loves it.

{Coloring in my Kitchen?}

i don't know if it's the fact that it's gotten so cold outside
(which means i'm spending more time inside)
 or that we just renewed our lease
(which means we'll be here for at least another year)
but lately i've been itching to make some changes to the apartment.

 i can't keep our home looking the same for too long before i'm ready to change it up again.

what i'm pondering right now is what to do to spruce up our "typical" renters kitchen.

here's what it looks like now:
(excuse the photo quality, just snapped these on my phone really quickly)

(nothin' too special, but it works)

i'm really debating between two different inspiration photos right now.

#1: i LOVE the chalkboard wall combined
with the white cabinetry and bronzey gold pendant in this first look
Chalkboard Wall
{via}
i've been drooling over the dark chalkboard wall+white cabinetry+great hardware combo
 for quite a while now.
not only do i love the look of the chalkboard wall,
but my mommy self is thinking it could account
for hours of fun for the little one once she's old enough.

now, our cabinets go to the ceiling, so i won't be able to add the decor up top
(total bummer :( i like how that looks)
and our counter tops are a lighter speckled granite,
so we won't have the same effect as the dark counters do here.

i'd love to add a hanging pendant too if we could figure out a way.
our ceilings are concrete and we aren't allowed to drill into them,
so anything hung from the ceiling has to be done in a creative way..
if you have any advice on this issue, i'd love to hear it!!
(none of our bedrooms/living room have overhead lights,
so this problem is pretty annoying!)
i'm also not sure if i'd paint just the far wall and leave the rest white,
 or go all out and paint them all...

#2: i love the personal, inviting feel this homemade photo wall creates
{via}
(as you can see from my kitchen pictures above,
 i already threw a few photos up the other day that i had lying around)

this second inspiration comes from natalie
 and her cute lil nyc apartment over on natthefatrat.
(sidenote: i love her blog!)
i love the idea of creating a one-of-a-kind
personalized "wallpaper" out of our photos.
i don't think i'd add the animal head being that we
already have a purple moose head hanging in viv's nursery.
(definitely don't wanna go all "hunter's lodge" vibe)
(although i guess a most hunter's lodges probably don't have a purple moose head!)

ok, so this is where i'm a little hung up regarding this look:
i hate clutter...
like despise it with a passion...
so as much as i loveee the whole 'photo wallpaper'
i'm just not sure if it's going to make me feel like it is just visually cluttered,
especially being that our kitchen is pretty small to begin with.

but on the flip side, because i don't like clutter (i might be borderline ocd about clutter)
i don't ever keep picture frames around with photos,
 so to have a designated area that i could have all my pictures up
(especially ones of the family to help viv learn all her family members names)
(and to put pics up of my precious lil one, but that's just a given)
would be simply wonderful.

i have thought that i could possibly do the chalkboard walls in
 the kitchen and then create a photo frame such as this one:

photo board
{via}

 or this one:

love this idea
{via}

 to put up next to the desk for all the prints i want to have on display...
decisions, decisions...
oy..

i also would like to switch out the hardware on the
cabinets and drawers to help freshen up the space as best we can.
the hardware would depend on which look we go with.

i need your help!!!
 what do you think i should do??
chalkboard paint?
 if so, just the main wall or all of them?
no paint and make a photo wall??
sheesh, this is such a tough decision for me for some reason..

your feedback is much appreciated!

{kitchen bliss}

you know you just took the best nap evaaa when you wake up not knowing what day it is, you look at the time on your phone and see its 5:52 and think that means you have about thirty eight more minutes before your babes will wake for her morning feeding...
and then your brain wakes enough from its haze to remember you were just taking a nap, so it must be 5:52pm, but if that's the case, where did you put the babe?...
ahh, gotta love those moments of deliria (i think i just made up a word. ya know, it's sorta like deliriousness, but i didn't know if that was an actual word either..) caused by the occasional afternoon nap!

alas, now i am fully awake, refreshed and functional!
(oh, and don't worry, viv was napping during this whole debacle too)

anywho.

how's about these gorgeous kitchens?
lovin' the modern yet inviting vibe they have..

Kitchen Bliss

Once again I'm drawn to the crisp white kitchens! This is beautiful with the amazing barstools, bright green accents, industrial light fixture, and scuffed up flooring. I love the character those pieces help bring to balance out the modern white cabinetry.

Taken Over To the Dark Side

I'm normally more of a white kitchen kind of gal, but these pictures may have taken me over to the dark side!

This one took my breath away!

This one makes me think of a modern Hawaii style kitchen with that style of wood.

What originally got my mind thinking this way was this weekend, I went to do hair for a new client at her apartment, and I actually gasp aloud (before realizing it!) at how much I L-O-V-E-D her apartment! Someday I will ask her if I can take some photos to share with you! But her kitchen made me have a mental love affair on my white kitchen dreams! She had these amazing tall charcoal gray lacquered cabinets with a light white and gray specked marble counter top, an awesome vintage chandelier and great little pops of red in her countertop appliances!!! I was in design heaven! (I did explain
that my gasp was due to loving her apartment, I didn't want to scare my new client!)
The thing that really made her dark cabinets work well, was that they were balanced out visually with the light colored counters and her apartment had all white walls, as well as tons of sunlight pouring in!

This realization has made me feel the need to reconsider how badly I've always wanted a white kitchen! That must mean that I will just have to move several times in my life to achieve all my design desires!! Hmmm, so much to ponder today! ;)

Bright White Spaces

Some of these spaces contain great pops of color while others are very simple and neutral, however, there's no denying they are all beautiful spaces!

I love the bright punches of purple in this space! And the great lightning!

I love the look of a white glass front door! Such an inviting foyer! If only I could see the rest of this home!

What a super feminine, French inspired flat!

So simple, and shiny but very glamazzon!

Ahhh! Do you think the owner of this bathroom would be upset if they found me hanging out in this beautiful tub?!?!

LOVE this sofa!

I love the great pops of color the fresh potted plants bring to this white kitchen! And super easy to cook with fresh herbs when they're right in front of you!

On a side note, Happiest of birthdays to my li'l bro Gabriel!!!! 21 Baby!!! :)

Inspirational Bliss

Madebygirl is one of favorite blogs for inspiration! I can always depend on her to get my creativity flowing! I love these spaces from Mi Casa magazine.

I LOVE a white kitchen!

This shower is my dream shower!

What an adorable dining area!

I adore this living room!

This office couldn't be more perfect, all it needs is my computer and I'll be ready to move right in!

I dream of someday having a house that I can make every room look like these!
