{Kitchen Reveal}

remember last week when i was asking your advice on what i should do to change up our kitchen?
well, i decided on going all out chalkboard paint.
i have always been a huge huge admirer of the high contrast between a dark wall and white cabinetry/finishes. because of that admiration i decided going for the dark and playful walls was the perfect solution to my design dilemma since i have all white cabinets and appliances in our current kitchen.
i got my diy on last weekend and must say i couldn't be happier with the outcome. even mr. w (who was supportive of, but i think fairly unsure of, my enthusiasm to paint our tiny little kitchen so dark) loves it.

{Faux} Wainscoting

{via}

i know i've been on this type of subject of painting lately but once i get an idea in my head, it's hard to shake..

i love the look of these painted on wainscotings. it's so chic and much more affordable and easier than the real deal, too. all you have to buy is paint, no molding necessary!

the chair rail molding on this look helps divide the two paint colors, creating a beautifully polished look

Taken Over To the Dark Side

Even though we won't be moving now until the end of February, I can't stop thinking about how I'll go about decorating a new space! I have been dreaming of painting walls dark, like really dark, maybe even black! Obviously this will depend on what the new space looks like, hopefully it'll be nice and bright and have lots of sun exposure, so my dreams can be reality! I'm thinking our bedroom walls, or maybe even just the wall our bed is on, or an office area, oh or maybe even the baby room! I could let myself get VERY carried away with this!
I just feel that a dark wall is clearly a very bold choice, but also can be oh so chic and sophisticated when executed properly. I like the thought of a dark dark wall with furniture that is unfinished, rough and a tad rugged. Maybe an old worn dresser or vintage bed frame, ideally with a little French inspiration to it...ah! I'm getting so excited!

Here are a few photos of inspiration, although honestly none of these are QUITE what I'm thinking in my head...

I love the dark walls with the cognac colored leather sofa, gorgeous!

I love the depth and lightness adding yards of light fabric brings to this space

I definitely think in order to pull this look off you need to keep the rest of the space light and bright with light colored fabrics and decor in order to prevent closing up the space visually.

What are your thoughts on the concept? Do you like stepping outside if the "beige box" or is black, charcoal, or navy a bit too out there for you?

Floor Inspiration

You may know her as Buddy Garrity’s wife on the hit show, Friday Night Lights, but Merrilee (McCommas) McGehee is famous to me for her AMAZEballs design and execution on this amazing floor!!

Simply using some tape, a few layers of paint, and a lot of time and patience you can create such an amazing feel in a room for such little cash!

Painted Stairways...to Heaven?

Lately I've been seeing so many photos of painted, stenciled, and typography filled staircases. I think this is such a fantastic opportunity to add personality and style to such an overlooked part of the home. What are your thoughts? Is this something you would consider for your own home? Which look is your favorite?!? :)

I adore this one!

How fun to write the words to your favorite song down your stairs? You best make sure you truly love the song, it'd always be stuck in your head!! hehe! :)

(Ok, maybe I'm cheating on this one! I think it's carpet. But it could be painted!)

And how can this one not make you smile?

Here is a more subtle way to brighten up your staircase without being too overwhelming.

Some random numbers and favorite welcoming words lend an eclectic feel.

Simply numbering the stairs going up is a great way to keep things classic but still different than normal.

Even a great wallpaper print can be used to freshen up your staircase.

I can't even pick a favorite, I love them all! If I had a staircase I would just change them out all the time! I mean, it's just paint, right?! :)
