House Tours: Jimmie Karlsson

Jimmie Karlsson is one of the geniuses behind the design firm Jimmie Martin, who I featured a few days ago. His London flat is an amazing mix of graffiti inspired wallpaper, eclectic design, and one of a kind pieces mix to make one truly inspiring space. He developed a passion for upcycling during his childhood; often spending his pocket money in auction houses and junk shops, which prepared him for having plenty of tricks up his sleeve once he had a place of his own to decorate!

'It's a mix of baroque hunting lodge, with skulls, hides and ornate pieces, and there's a slight military feel with the trunks and spears,' Jimmie says. It's definitely this "anything goes" attitude that helps to create the comfortable, easy feel of his home.

Jimmie's own wallpaper from his design company was stretched on boards as a backdrop in the dining room.

The carpet was torn out, leaving unsanded floorboards." I wanted that bleached, driftwood feel," says Jimmie."I don’t like things to be too perfect."

The revamped mirror takes on a completely new mood in vibrant neon colors.

Jimmie loves to blend the ornate with the simple, the antique with the modern. Junk-shop finds and personal treasures give the space an intimate feel. The black sculpture, for example, is three stools that Jimmie bought on eBay and stapled together.

The beautiful French sofa, purchased at an auction, was reupholstered in black velvet and the frame refinished in gold paint.

Jimmie loves finding pieces at junk shops and auctions, pieces filled with soul and character that no one else has in their homes.

To create some inexpensive and unique art for his staircase landing, Jimmie painted lyrics to a Swedish song across a white bed sheet, then stretched it across an old door found out a junk shop.

Jimmie reupholstered this antique bed and painted the Union Jack design directly onto the fabric. He then added definition to the frame with silver leaf.

Using a bold color in the transformation process of making old furniture new again creates a uber-stylish focal point in the room. Adding the large mirror on top the dresser helps to open up the room as well.

House Tours: Campion Platt

Campion Platt is a famous American architect living here in NYC. He just released a design book named "Made to Order" which I've heard is AH-Mazing! It's definitely at the top of my list of books I'm needing to purchase! These photos in the current NY Social Diary showcase his awesome house! He has managed to create a house with a purple sofa, a pink bedroom, and lots of purple light strips on the walls, yet it's still somehow has a masculine edge.

I'm LOVING the purple sofa! Hoping someday I can convince Mr. Williams he would like it! (I think it's starting to grow on him...)

The light installments throughout the house remind me of the post I had a few days ago about the LED light strips. The ones in this apartment are a tad different, but same concept. I love the feel it creates in the room, it definitely takes things to a whole new level!

He's done such a fantastic job mixing so many different elements and styles yet making it still feel so cohesive.

He did a great job of still bringing in some darker, more stately pieces to help balance the space, keeping it grounded. Like this great little entertainment area, as well as the fireplace.

There's only one thing that comes to mind when I see this kitchen:MODERN GLAMOUR!

I love the modern bookcases. The lighting creates such a soft feel for all the harsh straight lines.

The bedroom is so refreshing, light and airy! I'd wake up in a good mood every morning in such a happy looking bedroom!

I like how the closet is all function, it doesn't have to be style out, so long as everything has a place and is able to stay organized. (Ok, and his wife is one lucky lady! Check out that shoe rack is her closest!)

House Tours

This home in the Eastern Columbian building in downtown LA is so fun! They have found the perfect way to bring glamour and an eclectic, vintage feel to a very modern sophisticated space. And I'm loving it!

Moose head, Mirrored chest of drawers, and a perfect grey wall, LOVE

I'm not usually a fan of dark kitchens, but I think I could handle this one!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE that chandelier! I've been dreaming of one just like that for my "someday" home! And of course, LOVE the ghost chairs

What a fabulous way to do something a bit different on the kitchen counter, a little jewelry makes any area a tad more glamourous !

Those chairs are amazing!

Awesome art, amazing chair, and another fabulous chandelier!

This house has some amazing lighting fixtures in the most unexpected areas, like the guest bath, for example!

And the chandeliers for bedside lamps, ingenious!

What a great relaxing living space filled with so many fun pieces.

Some added glamour at the master tub is always needed!

An elephant in the shower never hurts either!

Have a happy Tuesday!
