Chalkboard Walls... Love 'em or Hate 'em?

Last night Mr. Williams and I finally watched the movie (500) Days of Summer. I've been wanting to see it for a while but just kept forgetting to rent it. I thought it was a super cute movie, Mr. Williams thought it was sort of a waste of 95 minutes! (That's the difference between men and women I guess)
One thing I loved most about the movie was all the chalkboard walls in the main character's apartment (can't remember his name now, hmm, maybe I didn't like the movie as much as I thought I did!) Anywho, He had these amazing chalkboard wall in his apartment where he originally had simple drawings and designs on, as well as papers and such. Later in the movie when he got back to his architect roots, he practiced his architecture on his walls. I love the look it gives to a room, however, the practical side of me has to wonder how messy that would get.... still nice to look at though!
Here's his "headboard" from the movie

I love this one found at Style at Home

What a cute idea found at this CB2 window display!

I LOVE the look of this bedroom from Anthropologie!

How sweet is this chalkboard wall and message?

One thing is for sure, it'd be much cheaper to have the ever changing wall of art be made from chalk rather than actual artwork being purchased all the time, is it worth the mess though???
Hmmm, something to ponder...

  1. I love this idea! It's kind of like a corkboard wall...functional or fun depending on what you need. Have you seen this stuff?
http://www.ideapaint.com/home/products/ - kind of the same idea, but probably less messy than chalk.

  2. I love the concept, but fear my walls would NEVER look like th ones in the pictures. My chalk drawings would smear or I would have to erase them a thousand times and then just give up!

I tried using bistro chalk to write on a mirror and I hated the way it looked. I posted the inspiration on my blog, but my execution stunk.

  3. I think chalkboard walls are cool in small doses. I had a friend that had a chalkboard calendar in her kitchen. She had a chalkboard paint and used vinyl to make the calendar and then wrote in with chalk. It was really cool! I think it would be cool to have a chalkboard paint in an area of your child's room! :)
